What did Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) really look like? Scientists, after years of research, have reconstructed the great composer’s facial features, Daily Mail reported.
Most of Mozart’s preserved portraits were painted years after his death, while those created during his lifetime vary significantly from each other.
Forensic facial reconstruction expert Cicero Moraes explained that while working on another project, he accidentally came across a skull that was claimed to belong to Mozart. Having studied historical figures for over a decade, Moraes and his team seized the opportunity to conduct the reconstruction.
"The skull was well-preserved, except for the missing lower jaw and some teeth. We reconstructed the missing parts using statistical data and anatomical correlation," Moraes stated.
The researchers first created a virtual model of the skull before applying various techniques to fully reconstruct the face. Based on markers for soft tissue thickness and measurements from hundreds of adult Europeans, they determined the nose, lips, ears, and other facial features.
"Additionally, we used anatomical deformation techniques to match a virtual donor head to Mozart’s skull, allowing us to generate a compatible facial reconstruction," the expert added. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
