Kellogg: US wants to restart relations with Russia

Kellogg: US wants to restart relations with Russia
The United States is trying to restore relations with Russia in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. During a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington on March 6, US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg explained this initiative by the desire to protect national interests and prevent the United States from being drawn into an "endless proxy war."

America is ready for dialogue with Russia

Kellogg stressed that the Trump administration is taking urgent steps to improve US relations with Russia, aiming to reach a peace agreement. According to him, the White House plans to put pressure on both sides to end the war.

“So what you are seeing and witnessing right now is the Trump administration’s urgent efforts to bring both sides to the table to reach a peace agreement,” Kellogg said.

Strategies for pressuring Russia

The United States is prepared to take a number of economic and political pressure measures against Russia. Kellogg gave several examples in this regard:
  • Implementing new sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
  • Seizing frozen Russian assets and redirecting them to rebuilding Ukraine.
  • Maximum pressure on Russia’s energy sector.

These measures could have a serious impact on the Russian economy, but it is not yet clear what their effect will be.

Ukraine accused of sharing intelligence

Kellogg also commented on the suspension of intelligence sharing with Ukraine. CBS journalist Margaret Brennan noted that this decision could be a big concession for Russia and would have a serious impact on the Ukrainian military.

Speaking about this, Kellogg said that Ukraine should blame itself for stopping the exchange of intelligence information. In her opinion, this decision was made in accordance with US interests.

Kellogg's statement reflects the US desire to reconsider its relations with Russia. Although Washington is working on a peace agreement, it does not intend to give up increasing pressure on Russia in this process. At the same time, the issue of intelligence cooperation with Ukraine remains controversial. Only time will tell what effect this new US strategy will have.
