US President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that Ukraine and Russia are currently negotiating a ceasefire and a “division of territory,” Tengrinews.kz reported via RBC.
Trump stated that the peace process is actively ongoing and he believes “a complete ceasefire will happen very soon,” followed by a broader agreement involving land division and other terms. He also mentioned that hostilities have already stopped on some parts of the front, with both sides observing the pause effectively.
He emphasized that his direct talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky laid the groundwork for this potential agreement. “I had very good conversations with both, and I believe we now have the boundaries for an agreement,” Trump said.
On March 18, Trump and Putin agreed in a phone call to temporarily halt strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Kyiv supported the initiative with a 30-day moratorium. Following the deal, Putin ordered Russian forces to suspend such attacks.
