Donald Trump’s administration plans to impose a new $998 daily fine on undocumented migrants who have ignored deportation orders, Kursiv.media reported.
The rule may apply retroactively for up to five years, leading to potential debts in the millions of dollars.
According to internal documents reviewed by Reuters, the plan also includes property confiscation for nonpayment.
An estimated 1.4 million people with existing deportation orders may be affected.
These fines were already in law but rarely enforced. Trump now seeks to reinstate them as part of his immigration agenda.
