According to The New York Times, Israeli officials planned to strike Iran's nuclear facilities in May 2024, but US President Donald Trump did not support this plan, preferring diplomatic negotiations.
According to sources, Israel was confident that Trump would support the attack. Because US military and logistical support was crucial in the strike plans: both during the strike and in repelling a possible Iranian retaliation.
However, contrary to all expectations, Trump made a firm point on the issue after meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu:
"No! We choose the path of negotiations."
Trump's strategy: negotiations, not war
This US position caused some uncertainty and even discontent in the Israeli government. Because while Tehran was continuing its nuclear program, it was considered possible to delay it by at least a year through a military strike.
Washington, however, expressed concern that such a move would drag the United States into a new, full-scale war. Therefore, the White House considered it preferable to seek a diplomatic solution with Iran. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
