An Uzbek citizen in Turkey faced serious consequences for taking photos of a woman without her consent. The case was reviewed within the framework of the country's legislation, and it was decided to apply deportation measures to him. This was reported by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Turkey.
According to reports, the timely intervention of consular officers helped to mitigate the citizen's sentence and prevent the initiation of a criminal case. However, he will still be deported from Turkey.
Unauthorized photography is a criminal act
The official warning issued by the Consulate General states:
“In Turkey, taking photos and videos of strangers without their permission is considered a violation of personal privacy and may result in serious legal action against you.”
Meanwhile, the Turkish Interior Ministry strictly enforces privacy laws. In particular, taking, distributing, or posting a person’s photo without their consent can be considered a criminal offense.
Consulate: Citizens must respect the law
Through this incident, the Consulate General called on all Uzbeks living, working, or temporarily staying in Turkey to respect the law.
Ignorance of the country’s laws does not exempt them from responsibility, the statement said. Unauthorized photography and videography, especially covert photography of women or children, is strictly monitored.
