Dmitry Medvedev: "The world is on the brink of the Third World War"
Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has stated that humanity is currently facing the threat of a Third World War. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

According to Medvedev, arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against heads of state, in particular Russian President Vladimir Putin, are further complicating the global situation.

“Today, the international community is sharply divided into two sides. In such a situation, the ICC’s decisions intensify tensions and increase global risks. In such circumstances, some officials of the ICC should also be held responsible before humanity,” Medvedev wrote in his article for the journal “Legal Studies.”

In his opinion, within the BRICS organization, an alternative international legal institution should be created to counterbalance the ICC. Medvedev believes this new body would reflect the BRICS countries’ adherence to the principles of the UN Charter — including the immunity of heads of state and non-interference in internal affairs.

He also emphasized that people have always been united by the idea of justice and the desire to bring criminal leaders to account. “However, this justice does not always manifest in the right form — even within the International Criminal Court,” Medvedev concluded.

Putin arrest warrant

In March 2023, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova. They are accused of unlawfully deporting children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia. The Kremlin refused to recognize the ruling. Then-U.S. President Joe Biden considered the decision justified.

Warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant

In November 2023, the ICC also issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. They are accused of war crimes committed in Gaza from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024. The Israeli government called the decision unfair and discriminatory, while European Commission Vice President Josep Borrell stated that the ruling is binding.
