The North Korean government has officially announced for the first time that its armed forces have participated in armed clashes with Ukraine on the side of Russia. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency, citing the North Korean Central News Agency KCNA.
It turned out that the DPRK military was sent to Russia on the direct order of the country's leader Kim Jong-un, within the framework of the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement between Russia and North Korea.
"The operations to liberate the Kursk region in order to repel the aggression against Russia by the Ukrainian government have been successfully completed," the KCNA report said.
The North Korean news agency also said that units of the DPRK armed forces directly participated in these military operations, and that this was carried out "on the personal order of the head of state Kim Jong-un."
On Saturday, the chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, reported to President Vladimir Putin on the situation in the Kursk region, highlighting the assistance provided by the North Korean military in the liberation of the region.
Gerasimov's statement was the first official report confirming the participation of the DPRK military in armed clashes in Russia.
Earlier, there were speculations in the Western and international press that North Korean troops were participating in operations in Russia, but to date, such reports have not been officially confirmed by Pyongyang.
According to experts, the participation of the North Korean armed forces on the Russian side indicates that military cooperation between the two countries has reached a new level. At the same time, this situation is likely to cause sharp protests from the international community. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
