German Acting Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has criticized US officials' proposals to Ukraine to grant Russia broad territorial concessions. In a commentary broadcast on ARD television on Sunday, April 27, the German defense minister likened the rhetoric to demands for surrender.

Pistorius said Ukraine understands that a permanent ceasefire or peace agreement with Russia "would lead to or be linked to territorial concessions." However, these concessions should not be as large as those proposed by US President Donald Trump, the German politician said. "What was in this offer, Ukraine could have received it itself a year ago by surrendering," the acting defense minister said.

Pistorius also stressed that the American president's offer in its current form does not bring any benefits to Ukraine. According to the German politician, possible territorial concessions should be considered in conjunction with proportionate security guarantees for the country's future - after all, the past has shown that Russia's promises are worthless.

In an interview with ARD television, Boris Pistorius also assured that Berlin would not refuse to provide military assistance to Ukraine, even if the Trump administration did so. This is not just about the security of a specific state, the German politician said.
