The US has approved the delivery of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine. Will this affect the situation in the region?

The United States Department of State has approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets and related equipment to Ukraine for $310.5 million (€274.7 million), the Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense announced on May 2.

Under the agreement, the fighter jets for the Ukrainian Air Force will be modernized and upgraded. In addition, the package will include specialized training for Ukrainian specialists in maintenance and operation. Spare parts, ground maintenance equipment, software, technical documentation and other logistical support elements are also an important part of the deal.

According to the US Department of Defense, the proposed contract will ensure the effective training of the Ukrainian Air Force and increase its readiness to respond to future military threats.

The project involves leading US military and technical companies such as Valiant Integrated Services, Top Aces Corporation, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Pratt and Whitney, Snap-on Inc., BAE Systems Inc., AAR Corporation and Comsetra LLC.

According to the American side, this military deal "will not have a significant impact on the existing military-political balance in the region."

The US Congress has also been informed of this decision. Now lawmakers will make a final decision on this deal.
