Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that the era of terrorism, armed violence and criminal activities in the country is over. The head of state made this historic statement on May 14 at a parliamentary faction meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AKP).
In his speech, Erdogan highlighted the disbandment and disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), known for its terrorist activities. According to the president, this event will mark a new stage in ensuring peace and security in Turkey.
"The era of terrorism, weapons and violence is over. We have now entered a new historical stage in ensuring peace and stability in our country. The most important thing for us in this process is that all terrorist groups in Europe and Syria recognize this truth, lay down their arms and join the process of disbandment," the Turkish leader said.
The President stressed that the most important condition for the dissolution of the PKK is the unconditional fulfillment of the promises made by the organization. The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and other relevant structures are closely and meticulously monitoring this issue.
As is known, the Kurdistan Workers' Party declared its goal to fight for the national rights of the Kurds in Turkey and establish an independent Kurdish state. The organization was founded in 1974 and began an armed struggle against the Turkish government in 1984. More than 40,000 people have died as a result of armed clashes over the past 40 years.
In early May of this year, the PKK officially announced its dissolution at its congress and ceased its armed activities. At the same time, the organization has been officially declared a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
This event is expected to be of historical importance not only for Turkey, but also for the entire region. With the threat of terrorism reduced, Turkey is likely to experience economic growth, increase foreign investment, and further strengthen peaceful relations with regional countries.
