In Russia, a criminal case has been initiated against popular video blogger and internet entrepreneur Gusein Gasanov, and he has been placed on the federal wanted list. According to investigators, Gasanov is accused of large-scale tax evasion and laundering of illegal income. This was reported by TASS news agency.
According to official data, the blogger failed to pay more than 170 million rubles in taxes between 2019 and 2021. It was also established that 20 million rubles of this amount were illegally laundered. The Investigative Committee confirmed that Gasanov has left Russia and is currently abroad.
Prosecutors stated that Gasanov received income not as an individual entrepreneur, but through the personal bank accounts of his relatives and acquaintances. The money was later withdrawn in cash or transferred to Gasanov’s personal accounts.
As a result of the investigation, Gasanov has been charged in absentia under Article 174.1, Part 4, Clause “b” of the Russian Criminal Code (legalization of funds or property obtained through criminal means, in large amounts). The penalty includes up to 7 years in prison or a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
Gusein Gasanov’s reaction
The blogger commented on the situation on his social media:
“I saw the news. Yes, arrest in absentia sounds loud, but in reality, it’s not that dramatic. All tax-related matters were resolved back in 2023. My lawyers are working on the case. We will resolve this and put an end to it.”
On the tax evasion allegations, he added:
“The media says I didn’t pay taxes. But I paid all my taxes and fines — totaling 320 million rubles. Looks like I got in someone’s way… Whoever digs a hole for someone else — falls into it themselves.”
