89 million records of court cases were lost in Russia: the danger in the “Pravosudie” system became apparent
Russia's main information system for storing court decisions and legal documents, Pravosudie, has suffered a serious loss. The State Accounts Chamber's report notes that a large-scale cyberattack in the fall of 2024 resulted in the deletion of a third of the archive - about 89 million records.

The Pravosudie platform is a single database that contains all the decisions, case results and protocols of the country's courts. According to the report, 33 percent of this data was lost as a result of the cyberattack on October 7, 2024.

Even more worrying is that the system was last externally audited in 2015 and has not been fully updated. In addition, it is noted that the system still uses "technically outdated, foreign-made software."

The paradox is that since 2003, the Russian government has spent 65.2 billion rubles on supporting and developing this system. However, as a result, it became clear that there were serious shortcomings and systemic lack of control over national information security.

At the moment, it remains unknown whether the lost data will be restored or how it will affect the legal processes in general. Russian citizens and lawyers are evaluating this situation as a “blow to confidence in the rule of law.”

The Zamin.uz editorial office will continue to monitor the development of news about this incident. This means that questions about information security and the reliability of state platforms will be discussed in more detail in the future.

What do you think: will the main judicial system of the country be held accountable for such a loss?
