US military to focus on defense, not intervention

US military to focus on defense, not intervention
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will stop trying to spread democracy by force, during a speech to graduates at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, DW.com reported.

“We are restoring the core principle that the job of the American military is not to fight endless wars abroad, but to defend our own borders,” Trump said.

He criticized previous administrations for focusing on “social projects” within the military while neglecting national security and depleting military resources in foreign conflicts.

“Under the Trump administration, those days are over. We’re eliminating distractions and focusing our forces on their core mission: defeating America’s enemies and protecting our flag,” he stated.

Trump also acknowledged that the U.S. military must adapt to modern warfare by learning from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, noting how drones are changing the nature of combat.
