To resolve the sharp issues between Russia and Ukraine and open the path to long-awaited peace, new diplomatic efforts have begun. This was stated by the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, during a broadcast on Fox News, where he made several important statements.
Kellogg emphasized that U.S. officials have received the list of “ceasefire conditions” submitted by the Ukrainian side. This document reflects important political objectives and security guarantees for Ukraine. However, Kellogg did not yet clarify the specific points included in the list.
A response document is also expected from Russia
Washington stated that it currently expects to receive a similar list from the Russian side. According to Kellogg, this process will be crucial for restoring trust between the parties and advancing negotiations to a new stage.
Interestingly, Russia and Ukraine had previously agreed during talks held in Istanbul to exchange such documents. At that time, both sides agreed to prepare their respective lists of ceasefire conditions.
Will the new round of negotiations be in Geneva?
According to Keith Kellogg, the next round of talks between Ukraine and Russia could be held in Geneva, Switzerland. One of the most important aspects of the upcoming meeting might be the formalization of agreements and the establishment of specific deadlines.
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that Moscow prefers Turkey to act as a mediator. He believes that Ankara’s neutral stance and geopolitical role in the region can positively influence the negotiations.
Prisoner exchange completed — now it’s time for political documents
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine was successfully completed on May 25. Now Moscow is ready to present its own list of ceasefire conditions to Kyiv as the next step in the negotiation process.
In addition, the Kremlin has announced that another document — “memorandum on a future peace agreement” — is being prepared. The exact content of the memorandum and how it differs from the list of conditions is still unknown. However, Kremlin officials emphasize that both documents have separate legal significance.
Conclusion: is diplomacy reactivating?
The exchange of such documents during negotiations signals a willingness to seek a political solution against the backdrop of military conflict. This kind of diplomatic activity between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia may very well determine a turning point for the entire European security system in the coming weeks.
At the upcoming meeting, presumably to be held in Geneva, agreements may be reached regarding specific conditions, guarantees, and practical steps. This will be major news not only for the region but for the entire world.
At a time when every step toward peace is being closely monitored, any official statement or document exchange holds great significance. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
