Powerful drone attacks on strategic airfields in Russia

Residents of the Irkutsk and Murmansk regions of Russia have simultaneously reported attacks by drones. This is reported by the Mediazona publication and local Telegram channels.

According to preliminary information, the villages of Sredny and Novomaltinsk in the Usolsky district of the Irkutsk region of Siberia were targeted. This area is home to the Belaya airfield, an important Russian military facility, which is home to a base of Tu-22M3 strategic bombers.

In addition, there were reports that the Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region was also attacked by drones. This military airfield is also of great importance to the Russian armed forces.

After the attacks, videos of a fire at the Belaya airfield in Irkutsk appeared on the Internet. The footage shows smoke rising from the airfield. According to local residents, several powerful explosions occurred as a result of the attacks.

According to some reports, these attacks may have been carried out as part of a Ukrainian special operation. According to Ukrainian media, on June 1, Ukrainian security forces launched a large-scale operation called "Website". As part of this operation, strategic military facilities in various regions of Russia were simultaneously hit. According to Babel, more than 40 Russian military aircraft were destroyed, including Tu-95, Tu-22M3 and A-50 reconnaissance aircraft.

Russian Governor Igor Kobzev confirmed that the Irkutsk region had been attacked by drones for the first time, calling the incident "unusual." According to him, the drones used for the attacks were secretly placed in trucks parked on the side of the road, and the source was quickly blocked after the attack.

"The source of the attacks has already been identified and blocked by security forces. The most important thing here is not to cause panic among the population and to control the situation. At the moment, there is no threat to the life and health of civilians,” Kobzev stressed on his Telegram page.

According to experts, this attack carried out by drones may have been aimed at damaging the air strike capabilities of the Russian forces by targeting important Russian military facilities. Such a large-scale and well-prepared operation poses new complex tasks for the Russian security services.
