Canadian scientists have made another significant discovery in the world of dinosaurs — they have identified a previously unknown species of dinosaur that lived on Earth around 80 million years ago. This was reported by the American ABC television channel.
The newly identified creature, named Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, is considered a close relative of the famous tyrannosaurus. Scientists refer to this species as a “small tyrannosaur.” Its estimated weight was about 770 kilograms, and its body length was approximately 4 meters.
It is noted that the first remains belonging to this species were discovered in the 1970s in Mongolia’s famous Gobi Desert. At that time, two incomplete medium-sized skeletons were found, but they remained unstudied for a long period and were believed to belong to another species. Only in 2023 were these fossils reanalyzed, confirming that they belonged to a completely new species.
According to an associate professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Calgary, this discovery may offer new insights into the evolution of tyrannosaur species and their geographical distribution during the Late Cretaceous period.
Experts emphasize that this species could serve as a catalyst for new research in the field of paleontology and significantly expand our knowledge in this area.
Such discoveries about ancient life are not only about the past — they are of great importance for the future as well. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
