19-year-old American blogger and solo pilot Ethan Guo took to the skies with a grand goal — to fly solo across all seven continents. However, his journey encountered an unexpected problem in Antarctica: he was arrested by Chilean authorities for landing without permission. This was reported by Kursiv Media.
According to the Chilean prosecutor’s office, Guo changed his flight path without prior notice and landed at the Rodolfo Marsh scientific base, located in the Antarctic territory claimed by Chile. By doing so, he allegedly violated several international aviation and national security regulations.
Reports say he took off from Punta Arenas and soon arrived at the designated area in Antarctica. Currently, Guo is being held in this area — specifically, in the Chilean sector of Antarctica.
The court has ruled that he must remain in the country until the investigation is completed. Guo, on his part, referred to his actions as a "test flight," stating that it was just part of a preparation process.
This incident has once again brought international aviation safety issues to the forefront. At this point, it remains unclear how Guo’s journey will end and what consequences he might face. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
