Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his intention to organize a meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States in Istanbul to discuss an agreement on Ukraine.
Erdogan stated that during his discussions with Putin and Trump this week, he would aim to determine whether a meeting between the two leaders could take place in Istanbul. According to the Turkish president, such a meeting could play a crucial role in stabilizing the situation in Ukraine and taking new steps.
On Wednesday, the third round of negotiations took place in Istanbul between Ukrainian and Russian delegations regarding the issue of ending the war. However, the results of these talks did not bring significant updates or agreements.
After the meeting, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, stated that Kiev had proposed to Moscow to organize a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin by the end of August. However, the Kremlin did not provide a definitive response to this proposal, and no official decision regarding the meeting of the two leaders has been made yet.
Nevertheless, Erdogan's proposal to organize a meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States in Istanbul highlights not only Turkey's important role but also its significant place in regional and international politics. The holding of this meeting and the implementation of agreements will undoubtedly be of great importance for stabilizing the situation in Ukraine.
