On the world political stage, the phone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States became the center of attention, reported reuters.com. On August 5, Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced on his official page about a productive conversation with President Donald Trump. One of the main topics, of course, was the issue of ending the war.
According to Zelensky, Kyiv highly appreciates all the efforts made by the US president for stable and long-term peace. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that "it is necessary to stop the bloodshed as soon as possible" and stated full support for Washington in this direction. Zelensky also noted that if the Russian side had not artificially prolonged the war, many months of peace could have been maintained by now.
President Zelensky stated that he informed Trump about Russia’s attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities and that they jointly assessed the situation. At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that the Russian side had increased the intensity of the strikes.
During the conversation, the leaders of the two countries also discussed sanctions against Russia. In Zelensky’s opinion, Russia’s economy continues to decline, and this situation forces the Moscow leadership to seriously consider the US president’s firm position and possible measures. The Ukrainian president stressed that this new political approach could significantly impact the fate of the region.
It should be noted that the American side has not yet given an official comment on this conversation. Earlier, Donald Trump said that he had given a 10-day period — until August 8 — for Russia and Ukraine to reach a ceasefire agreement. According to him, after this period, the US will introduce new tariffs and "other measures" against Moscow.
In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin is in no hurry to respond to the demands of the American leader. According to Reuters, while Putin does not rule out the possibility of improving relations with the United States, he continues to prioritize military objectives.
