Former Ukrainian prisoners declare hunger strike at Russia–Georgia border

The humanitarian crisis at the Russia–Georgia border is deepening, reports sota.vision. According to available information, 11 former Ukrainian prisoners deported from Russian territory are trying to return to their homeland — Ukraine, but are facing serious obstacles. They hoped to transit through Georgia, but because they do not have foreign passports, this opportunity was denied. They only have temporary certificates, which block their passage.

Currently, these individuals are living in the basement of a building at the Georgian border post. According to official data, this facility is designed for only 20 people, but now there are about 100 people living there. Among them are women. People are almost never allowed outside, and there are no proper living conditions, which makes their situation even worse.

Such problems at international borders once again highlight unresolved issues in human rights and migration policy. In this case, people are left, even if for a short time, in harsh and hopeless circumstances.

According to the Ukrainian migrants, they were forced to declare a hunger strike — because they had no other way to defend their rights and justice. So far, no fundamental change in the situation has occurred, and the migrants are awaiting help from international organizations and human rights defenders.

The current crisis, the need for humanitarian support, and questions of justice at the border have once again become the focus of public attention. What will happen in the coming days remains unanswered.
