The 100-milliliter liquid volume restriction that has long caused inconvenience for millions of passengers at European airports may soon become a thing of the past. This news was reported by Euronews based on sources from the European Commission.
Originally, the restriction was introduced for security purposes because traditional X-ray devices could not detect liquid explosive substances. However, due to technological advancement, the situation has fundamentally changed.
Specifically, the emergence of new-generation scanner equipment has made it possible to detect such substances. This has led to a reconsideration of the previous restrictions. The new system, approved at the European Civil Aviation Conference in June, is currently being tested by manufacturers. It is expected to be widely implemented once officially approved.
Currently, such technologies have been installed on a trial basis at several airports in major Italian cities such as Rome and Milan. Seven terminals in Italy are equipped with modern scanners, allowing passengers to carry larger volumes of liquids in their hand luggage.
Other countries across Europe are also joining this process. In particular, airports in Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, Sweden, and the Netherlands are expected to implement the technology soon.
Such changes are certainly expected to create convenience for millions of travelers. In the near future, it may no longer be necessary to repack cosmetics, perfumes, or medicinal items into special containers and repeatedly measure and limit their volume.
However, the widespread adoption of this system may take some time, as the new equipment is significantly more expensive than traditional devices, and each airport will require a specific budget and technical preparation for implementation.
At the same time, the new system will undoubtedly help strengthen the safety of international air travel. The European Union has taken a modern approach in this regard, paying more attention to the human factor. The public is keenly waiting to see how these conveniences will impact their lives in the near future.
