President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Moscow discussed in detail with the leaders of seven states, including the heads of China, India, and Uzbekistan, the results of the latest negotiations on settling the armed conflict in Ukraine held with the special representative of the US President, Steven Witkoff. According to the press services of the Kremlin and the leaders of the countries participating in this dialogue, these conversations took place in the format of various political consultations.
On August 8 alone, Friday, Putin made calls to a number of international political leaders. He held direct telephone talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as with the Presidents of Belarus and Kazakhstan, Alexander Lukashenko and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. It is noted that the talks focused mainly on the military situation in Ukraine, the possibility of ending the war, and diplomatic measures towards peace.
A day earlier, Putin called the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, exchanging views on the international situation in the region. He also showed the Kremlin views to the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and discussed cooperation issues between the two states.
In addition, the Russian leader held a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council of Russia to consider the most important issues in the field of the country’s political security. According to information published on the Kremlin’s website, this meeting discussed not only the problem of Ukraine but also broader issues of regional security.
After Putin’s meeting with Steven Witkoff, Moscow and Washington announced that they had begun preparations for holding a personal meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump. According to diplomatic sources, this meeting is expected to discuss the conditions and ways of reaching an agreement to stop Russia’s aggressive military actions against Ukraine.
