A British woman is making money by selling paintings created by her rats.

In the United Kingdom, an unexpected case has attracted public attention. The pet rats of an ordinary student are now earning big money online. According to Daily Star, British woman Ella Woodland turned her eight rats into “artists” and began making a profit by selling the paintings they created.

Reports say that in February 2025, Ella first allowed her pets to freely move around a canvas covered with watercolor and children’s paints. As a result, their running left colorful traces that formed abstract artworks. Since then, she decided to put these pieces up for sale on the internet.

At first, these paintings did not generate much interest, and their price was low — around ten pounds sterling. However, after videos went viral on social media, the situation changed dramatically. Millions of views led to a huge increase in demand. It is now reported that the price of a single painting has risen to as much as 500 pounds.

Ella Woodland spends the money she earns mainly on improving her rats’ lives. For example, she has already bought a premium cage worth 250 pounds, special tunnels, and expensive food mixes. In this way, she is creating even more comfortable conditions for them.

According to Ella, in the beginning there were very few orders — no more than two or three per week. But after one buyer shared the paintings on social media, demand increased by 500 percent. Now she manages to sell about twenty works per week, and all of them are purchased quickly.

Experts emphasize that this phenomenon shows not only an unusual online trend, but also the growing interest of people in their pets. Through the “talent” of her rats, Ella Woodland is gaining not only financial profit but also providing thousands of people with positive emotions.
