Authorities in Kyrgyzstan have halted the search for two Iranian climbers missing on Victory Peak, News.ru reported. The Emergency Ministry cited severe weather conditions in the area.
All search efforts have been suspended, and it remains unclear whether they will resume this year.
The missing climbers, Maryam Pilehvari and Hasan Seyfollah, had arrived in early August to climb Victory Peak. Their last known contact was nearly two weeks ago. Officials fear they may have died.
Earlier, the rescue of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsyna, who was stranded on Victory Peak on August 12 with a broken leg, was completed successfully.
Meanwhile, an Italian climber who twice attempted to rescue Nagovitsyna died at 6,800 meters after developing symptoms of cerebral edema. Despite efforts, he could not be saved.
