A letter that had not reached from Illinois, USA for 72 years was recently returned to its owner. Postal workers assume that this postcard had been in the wrong mailbox for a long time, reports Pravilamag.
Postal worker Mark Tompson, working at the Ottawa city post office, found a 1953 letter depicting the UN building in New York and became interested in its history. He sought help from local genealogists to identify the source of the letter, and through this connected with 88-year-old Alan Ball, living in Sandpoint, Idaho.
It became known that Alan Ball had sent the letter to his parents Frederick and Elizabeth Ball when he briefly stopped in New York. Decades later, he saw the letter again and was surprised. It turned out that the letter had not reached the address and had remained in the mailbox for many years.
