Humanitarian manager Mirjana Spolyarich said that a mass evacuation in Gaza City cannot be carried out safely and in an orderly manner. This poses a major risk to the population as Israel tries to take full control of the area.
Evacuation would cause a large flow of people to other parts of Gaza, but food, shelter, and medical aid are insufficient. Many people cannot leave due to hunger, illness, or injury.
International humanitarian law requires that evacuated people are provided with safe shelter, food, and protection. Under current conditions, these requirements are not met, making evacuation practically impossible.
The Gaza conflict began on October 7, 2023, with a Hamas attack, resulting in more than 63,000 deaths in the region, mostly civilians.
