The European Union plans to launch a new electronic border system this autumn. This system will automatically register foreign citizens when they enter and leave Europe. The goal is to strengthen security and make travel more convenient.
The system will apply in 29 European countries. Among them are France, Spain, Italy, and Greece – destinations often visited by Uzbek tourists. Instead of stamping passports, a special device will record fingerprints and a photograph.
The new system will be introduced gradually starting from October 12. First, bus passengers at Dover port will be registered, and later other travelers will join. The registered data will remain valid for three years.
Experts say there may be long queues in the early days. If necessary, the old system – manual passport stamping – will continue temporarily. From 2026, an additional rule will come into force, requiring visa-free travelers to obtain prior online authorization.
