In the Philippines, heavy rains have left many areas submerged. Streets have turned into rivers, cars are stuck in the flow, and people are facing difficulties getting to work and school. It is reported that some diseases are also spreading as a result of the floods.
The population is dissatisfied with the government. Although large amounts of money have been allocated for flood prevention over the years, many projects have not been implemented. President Ferdinand Marcos admitted that facilities which should have been in place were missing during inspection.
Talks about corruption have moved from social media to the streets. Some officials have resigned, and contractors are being questioned in Congress and the Senate.
Filipinos are now demanding concrete actions. A major protest is planned for September 21. The people want funds for flood control to be spent honestly.
