In Egypt, archaeologists reported a discovery that astonished the global scientific community. They uncovered the remains of an ancient sunken port, and this finding may serve as a key step in the search for Cleopatra’s tomb. This was announced by the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The Dominican archaeological mission near the Temple of Taposiris Magna unearthed stone and metal anchors, amphorae, as well as remains of an inner port. In addition, an ancient tunnel connecting the temple to the sea was discovered. According to the head of the expedition, Dr. Kathleen Martinez, such findings further strengthen the possibility that Cleopatra and her famous lover Mark Antony were buried there.
The search for Cleopatra’s tomb has been ongoing for many years and is surrounded by various theories. If this hypothesis is confirmed, it could become one of the greatest archaeological sensations of recent decades.
It should be recalled that in 51 BC, Cleopatra ascended the Egyptian throne at the age of 18 and ruled jointly with her brother Ptolemy XIII. Later, she gained the favor of Julius Caesar, and after his death, she grew close to Mark Antony.
However, the queen’s life ended tragically: after the Romans conquered Egypt, she took her own life. It is believed that Cleopatra was buried next to Mark Antony, but the exact location of their tomb remains a mystery.
