US President Donald Trump has signed a decree introducing new regulations regarding work visas. According to Reuters, under the new procedure, companies will now be charged a fee of 100 thousand US dollars when issuing the H-1B work visa, which is most commonly used for foreign qualified specialists. This is almost 500 times more than the current payments.
This decision could create serious difficulties, especially for the US technology sector. Because large IT companies in the country often rely on qualified specialists from India and China. It is noted that the new procedure is expected to sharply reduce the flow of these personnel.
According to the data, the US issues approximately 85,000 H-1B visas annually. These visas are mainly intended for high-level IT specialists, engineers, researchers, and researchers. Such an increase in fees is an additional burden for large corporations and can severely limit the possibility of hiring foreign personnel, especially for startups and small businesses.
The US government explains this decision with the goal of protecting the national labor market and prioritizing jobs for American specialists. However, large technology companies, international business, and experts met this idea with heated debates.
Experts note that this step could have a twofold impact on the American economy: on the one hand, it could increase the capabilities of local specialists, and on the other hand, it could become a serious obstacle for large IT corporations in terms of competitiveness and innovation.
