On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, US President Donald Trump made a serious statement that drew the attention of the world community. One of the questions asked to him was about the Russian Air Force, about the downing of aircraft that violated NATO territory. Trump replied, "Yes, I agree." At the same time, to the question of whether American troops are ready to assist allied states in such situations, he avoided giving a clear and direct answer, limiting himself to "it depends on the situation."
The White House leader also participated in a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the same day. In it, Donald Trump openly admitted that the ongoing large-scale military conflict between Russia and Ukraine will not stop in the near future. "The main change is that the Russian economy is currently experiencing a major recession, the situation is very difficult. And Ukraine, attracting the attention of the whole world, has really done a lot to stop a huge army," he said.
Zelenskyy, in turn, stated that over the past month, the Ukrainian army has regained control of 360 square kilometers of territory. At the same time, more than a thousand Russian troops were reportedly surrounded by Ukrainian forces. Based on this situation, Kyiv hopes to exchange captured Russian soldiers with Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Zelenskyy also expects even stricter sanctions against Russia from the West. He openly stated that he fully supports the US president's view that European countries should stop purchasing Russian oil and gas. "We are united in this, and European countries should also support us," he said.
Thus, these statements, delivered from the UN rostrum, demonstrate a further escalation of tension on the world political stage. The subsequent positions of NATO countries, the European Union, and the USA can determine the direction of development of international relations.
