U.S. President Donald Trump, during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, held a joint press conference with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to him, there is little hope that the Russia-Ukraine war will end anytime soon.
“Russia is not that strong. For them, this should have been easy. But it is clear that the war will drag on for a long time,” Trump said.
In the president’s view, Russia’s economy is collapsing, and this is an important step toward peace:
“The greatest progress is Russia’s economy. It is in a terrible state, turning into ruins. Frankly speaking, the Ukrainian army is doing a very good job holding back this large army,” he added.
Trump also referred to China and India as the “main sponsors” of the war, since they continue to purchase Russian oil. He did not rule out speaking with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to persuade him to stop buying Russian oil.
