
Ukraine and Syria reached an agreement on the resumption of diplomatic relations on September 25, 2025. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this following a meeting with the interim president of Syria, Ahmed Al-Shara, within the framework of the UN General Assembly.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine and Syria have resumed official relations by signing a communiqué. He supported this step and expressed his readiness to assist Syria in achieving stability.
The meeting discussed security threats and prospective cooperation between the two countries. The parties agreed to strengthen relations on the basis of mutual respect and trust.
For information, Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Damascus in 2022 after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad recognized Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states.
