Nicolas Sarkozy sentenced to five years in prison

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison over the financing of his presidential campaign by Libya. The court found him guilty, reports Kursiv media site.
Former Interior Minister Claude Guéant was sentenced to six years in prison and fined 250,000 euros, Brice Hortefeux was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 50,000 euros. The former campaign treasurer Éric Woerth and two other individuals were acquitted.
The investigation into illegal campaign financing began in 2013. The main source of the accusations is businessman Ziad Takieddine, who claimed that Libya financed the 2007 elections.
