Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko proposed building a second nuclear power plant in the country during a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This was announced through the transcript of the meeting published on the Kremlin website.
According to Lukashenko, the new nuclear power plant could be built in eastern Belarus. One of its main objectives is to supply electricity to the Russian-occupied regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Donetsk.
Lukashenko said that "Rosatom" has prepared the opportunities to implement the project and expressed his reluctance to discuss financial matters publicly. Putin responded without directly supporting the proposal, saying, "If there is a consumer who takes the electricity and pays the necessary tariff, this is not a problem at all."
