Chank recognized as the fattest bear in the USA

The brown bear named Chank, which lives in the Katmai National Reserve located in Alaska, USA, was recognized as the fattest bear in the country. This was reported by People.

The winner was determined within the framework of the "Fat Bear Week" competition, held from September 23 to 30. This unusual competition, held annually in Alaska, is aimed at assessing the body weight of brown bears before hibernation. In normal conditions, a male bear weighs 320-400 kilograms in summer, and by autumn this figure reaches almost 550 kilograms.

11 bears participated in this year's competition. The winner was selected by online voting. Chank surpassed his main rival, bear No. 856, who received 63,729 votes, receiving 96,362 votes.

Chank reportedly arrived in Katmay in 2025 with a left jaw injury. Nevertheless, it quickly adapted to catching and eating its main food source - red caviar.
