Large protests have erupted in Madagascar in recent weeks. Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of President Andry Rajoelina. They complain about water and electricity shortages, corruption, and poverty.
According to reports, the president left the country on Sunday aboard a French military plane. Some members of the military have stopped supporting the government and joined the protesters.
During the demonstrations, several government offices were seized, and the head of the Senate was removed from office.
According to the UN, at least 22 people have been killed since September 25. In Madagascar, a country of 30 million people, young citizens have become the main force behind the protests.
