Erdoğan allows foreigners of Turkish origin to work in Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed a new decree simplifying the employment process for foreigners of Turkish origin. The document was officially published on October 10 and opened new opportunities for members of the Turkish diaspora abroad.

According to the new regulation, individuals of Turkish descent who hold citizenship of another country can now work in Turkey without going through complex bureaucratic procedures. They are permitted to engage in entrepreneurial and professional activities in both the public and private sectors. However, employment in the military and security institutions remains prohibited.

The decree states that such individuals must register with professional associations, just like Turkish citizens. At the same time, the requirement of Turkish citizenship for residence and employment has been abolished.

The new law, however, does not grant them political rights — they cannot vote or run for office.

Officials emphasized that the main goal of this decision is to attract professionals of Turkish origin to contribute to the national economy and to strengthen cultural and moral ties between Turkey and its kin abroad.

Experts note that this decree creates new opportunities for the Turkish diaspora and helps to partially address the shortage of skilled labor in Turkey’s job market.

Thus, the new initiative clearly demonstrates Turkey’s open policy toward people of Turkish descent worldwide and its intention to involve them in the country’s development.
