US and Russian leaders plan to meet in Budapest

US President Donald Trump announced that he had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated that the dialogue was very productive and rich in important results, Reuters reported.

On his social media page, Trump wrote that Putin congratulated him and the United States on achieving “the great peace long awaited in the Middle East.” He described it as a major diplomatic victory in the region. According to Trump, this positive development in the Middle East could help accelerate negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.

Trump added that during the conversation, Putin expressed special gratitude to First Lady Melania Trump. According to him, the Kremlin appreciated her concern for the fate of Ukrainian children. “He was very thankful and said that this work should continue,” Trump wrote.

It was also reported that the two leaders discussed new opportunities in trade relations between Russia and the United States once the conflict in Ukraine ends. Trump stated that “next week, a meeting of high-level advisors from both countries will take place.” The US delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The location of the meeting has not yet been determined.

Trump also announced his intention to hold a personal meeting with Putin in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. “We will meet at the agreed place and discuss whether we can put an end to this ‘disgraceful’ war between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.

According to Trump, tomorrow he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office to discuss his conversation with Putin and other key issues. “I believe today’s phone conversation was a major step forward,” Trump concluded.
