In Spain, Pablo Picasso's unique work "A Still Life with a Guitar" disappeared.
According to reports, this work, created in 1921 using gouache technique and measuring only 12.7 x 9.8 centimeters, disappeared without a trace while being sent from Madrid to Granada for exhibition. The work is expected to be held at the CajaGranada Foundation under the title "Nature morte. "The Eternity of the Inert" - "Nature Murder." The Eternity of Inaction," but it did not reach its destination.
Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine whether the incident was the result of an accidental mistake or a planned theft. The Special Department for Historical Heritage of the Spanish National Police launched an investigation on October 10th based on the foundation's official complaint.
It turned out that the still life with the guitar belonged to a private collection and was taken out of a house on Pio XII Avenue in Madrid on September 25 through a company specializing in the transportation of works of art. All the works were placed in a warehouse at the same time and sent to Granada.
The van arrived in Granada at 10:00 a.m. on October 3rd, but during an inspection, it was discovered that Picasso's work was missing. It was reported that the carriers stopped and rested in Deifontes on the way, and this is now the main point of the investigation.
The Foundation analyzed video surveillance footage, but no suspicious incidents were recorded in the weekend footage. At the same time, due to the incorrect numbering of the work's packaging, an accurate examination was delayed.
Since the head and managers of the exhibition had signed all the documents in advance, on October 6, the absence of Picasso's work was discovered by curator Maria Toral during the placement of the works.
So far, no one has been arrested, and no traces have been found. According to one police version, the work may have gotten lost during the logistics process, and according to another version, it was stolen in a pre-planned manner.
In addition to Picasso, the exhibition in Granada features a total of 58 works by renowned artists such as Juan Gris, René Magritte, and Raphael Zabaleta. The presentation will last until January 11, 2026.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Picasso's "B bust of a woman in a floral cap," which had not been shown to the public for 80 years, was put up for auction.
