In the South Wales region of Great Britain, two swimmers nearly perished due to artificial intelligence recommendations. According to Futurism, they obtained information about the time of the water wave through ChatGPT and made incorrect calculations.
Two people planning to return to shore from Sally Island asked the neural network about the time of low and high water before swimming. But the AI showed them the wrong schedule.
"I made a big mistake by checking low water time through ChatGPT. It was written there at 9:30. We thought we would catch up, but when we returned, the situation turned out to be completely different. "This was a big lesson for us," said one of the swimmers.
Fortunately, they were helped by Gordon Hedfield, the owner of a seaside restaurant. Seeing the wave rising rapidly, he grabbed a megaphone and called on the swimmers to turn back.
"They were already halfway there, and the water was rising rapidly. If they had continued, the result could have been tragic," he said.
According to reports, the bay where the incident occurred is known for its strongest wave movements in the world - the wave height can reach up to 15 meters. The currents, moving at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour, turn a safe place into a disaster zone in a matter of minutes.
"This phenomenon reminds us that artificial intelligence can never completely replace human conscious attention and experience," Hedfield concluded.
