India launches heaviest military communications satellite into space

India’s space research agency, ISRO, successfully launched the country’s heaviest military communications satellite — GSAT-7R — into space, reported TASS.
Using the LVM3 rocket system, the spacecraft was placed into geostationary orbit, weighing approximately 4.4 tons.

The new satellite holds major importance for India’s Navy. GSAT-7R will provide high-quality, uninterrupted communication between ships, aircraft, submarines, and naval command centers.

The satellite is expected to significantly enhance operational control and data exchange capabilities, especially in military and strategic operations across the Indian Ocean region.

Experts say this network marks a new phase for joint operations, intelligence, and rapid command coordination. At the same time, they emphasize that military dominance should not negatively affect regional stability.

The project is regarded as a strategic advantage for Indian engineers and the armed forces — a new expression of national strength through space technology.

Like any new technology, it is expected to spark political and military debate, but from a technical standpoint, it is seen as a disciplined and significant step forward.
