A powerful explosion occurred inside a mosque during Friday prayers in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Reuters reported that the incident occurred on November 7th at a temple located within the Kelapa Gading school complex.
According to official data, at least 50 people received injuries of varying severity as a result of the explosion. Some of them were hospitalized in serious condition. According to the head of the city police, Asep Edi Suheri, the causes of the incident are currently being investigated by the investigative authorities.
"A total of 54 people were injured. Among them are both those with minor injuries and those with severe burns," the police chief said.
According to witnesses, the explosion occurred a few minutes after the beginning of Friday sermons. "Suddenly a loud explosion was heard, and the room filled with black smoke. People ran out, children were crying, and some fell in fear," says mathematics teacher Budi Laxono, who was at the mosque.
Most of those injured in the explosion were damaged by glass shards and sound waves. They received first aid at the Kelapa Gading District Clinic.
Investigators are currently considering several possible reasons. Among them are short circuits in electrical wires, malfunctions in electronic equipment, and the possibility of using a homemade explosive device. During the inspection of the scene, police reported the discovery of suspicious items - pneumatic weapons, revolver-type firearms, and remote controls.
Currently, all evidence is undergoing expert review, and the investigation is under the control of Indonesia's internal affairs and security agencies.
