The Iranian government has abandoned its plan to relocate the capital. Now Tehran aims to solve its water shortage problem through new technologies, Tasnim News reported.
According to Ali Abdolalizadeh, the president’s representative for maritime resource management, the project to supply water from the Persian Gulf to Tehran has been fully implemented. This regionally significant project was developed by Iranian specialists and is currently regarded as the only reliable source of drinking water for the capital.
He stated that the government’s final plan is to address Tehran’s water and environmental problems through new technologies and efficient resource management.
At present, the capital has five major reservoirs that supply the city with drinking water. However, most of them are now in a deteriorated condition. Therefore, since November 9, the water pressure at night has been reduced.
According to officials, the decrease in water reserves is associated with the most severe drought and heat waves observed in the past 60 years. However, experts believe that the true cause of the crisis lies in inefficient water management and weak reforms in the agricultural sector.
