A London man met his father he had been searching for 20 years — in a store

21-year-old London resident Oliver Archer unexpectedly met his long-lost father in a local shop. They hadn’t seen each other for twenty years, Pravilamag reported.

According to Oliver, he was standing in line when the man behind him was talking on the phone in Turkish. As a joke, Oliver said, “My dad is Turkish too.” After that, the man mentioned his name, and Oliver realized it matched his father’s name — he was stunned.

After leaving the shop, Oliver asked the man if he knew his mother’s name. When he confirmed it, Oliver said, “I think I might be your son.” At first, they laughed awkwardly, then began a heartfelt conversation. “He told me not to apologize and said he was glad this happened,” Oliver recalls.

It turned out that Oliver had been searching for his father since his teenage years — through social media, DNA tests, and his mother’s old letters, but without success. Now it appeared they had been living just five minutes apart all this time.

Since that meeting, father and son talk every day and plan to rebuild their relationship from scratch. Moreover, Oliver discovered he has six half-siblings.

Despite twenty years of separation, the young man says he holds no resentment: “I believe in second chances. I’ve only heard one side of the story, and there’s no point living in the past. What matters most is that we have the present.”
