Scientists from Aarhus University in Denmark analyzed Adolf Hitler’s DNA and discovered a genetic predisposition to several mental disorders, Daily Mail reported.
The study revealed that Hitler had a high likelihood of developing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
For the analysis, blood traces collected in 1945 by American officer Roswell Rosengren from a sofa in Hitler’s bunker after his suicide were used. Later, the sample was studied at the genomic level, and using DNA sequencing technology, scientists examined about three billion genetic instructions in detail.
According to experts, Hitler showed a predisposition to ADHD and belonged to the 1% of the population with a high risk of developing autism and schizophrenia. These disorders can be inherited genetically.
Michael Fitzgerald, a professor of psychiatry at Trinity College in Ireland, noted that such a combination of disorders is “extremely rare” and described Hitler as “a criminally inclined autistic psychopath.”
In addition, scientists mentioned that Hitler’s relative, Veit Alois, spent several years in a psychiatric hospital in Vienna. He suffered from hallucinations and irrational behavior and was often tied to his bed. Researchers believe this supports the theory that Hitler’s mental disorders had hereditary roots.
