Tension in US politics: Trump threatened congressmen with death!

President Donald Trump once again came out onto the scene with sharp threatening statements against six Congress representatives of the opposition Democratic Party following their encouragement to military personnel to refuse to execute illegal orders.

Trump’s sharp rhetoric

"Those very traitors to the state who called for not obeying my orders should have been sitting in jail now, instead of walking free on fake news channels trying to explain that their words were an acceptable action," — he wrote late Saturday, November 22, on his page on the social network Truth Social. The President accused the politicians of "inciting conflict at the highest level." According to his words, their statement "leaves no room for any other interpretation."

Earlier, on Thursday, Trump had openly threatened them with the death penalty, accusing them of "behavior punishable by death."

The appeal of Congress members

This group, consisting of three women and three men, who previously served in the military or special services system, published a video address. It called on active service members and intelligence personnel not to execute "unlawful orders." As an example, they showed the instance of using troops against demonstrators in Los Angeles — by order of Trump as the Supreme Commander of the forces. Also, operations by the US Armed Forces to kill suspected drug traffickers near the coasts of Latin America were strongly condemned.

This joint call was signed by Senator Elissa Slotkin, who worked at the CIA, Senator Mark Kelly, who served in the Navy and was an astronaut, and several members of the House of Representatives.

Risk of political violence

The Democratic Party called Trump's threats "absolutely hateful" and warned of the potential for a new wave of political aggression in the US. The political situation in the country still remains very tense and unstable. In recent months, an influencer with ultra-right views was shot dead in Utah, and in June, a Democratic Party representative was killed in her home.

According to the US Constitution, anyone who wages war against the United States or gives aid to the enemies of the country is considered to have committed treason. The death penalty, imprisonment, or a fine may be assigned for treason. These kinds of threats from Trump, reminding of federal laws, are further deepening the division in society.
