Heavy rainfall and tropical storms have caused major flooding across Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. Thousands of homes are submerged, with hundreds of people dead and missing. Rescue teams are working in difficult conditions, and many residents are still being evacuated to safer areas.
The worst-hit region is Indonesia’s Sumatra island. More than 300 people have died due to floods and landslides, major roads are blocked, and electricity supplies have been disrupted. The rare Cyclone Senyar destroyed homes, and food shortages have appeared in some areas. The government is considering declaring a state of emergency.
In southern Thailand, water levels have reached 3 meters, with more than 160 deaths reported. Over 3.8 million people have been affected by the floods. The city of Hat Yai recorded the heaviest rainfall in 300 years in a single day. Thousands of residents have taken shelter in temporary facilities.
Malaysia’s Perlis state has also been flooded, and thousands have been evacuated. At the same time, Sri Lanka was hit by a powerful cyclone that killed more than 130 people. Experts link the situation to climate change and increasingly extreme weather patterns.
