Ultimatum and answer: Trump gave Maduro a week...

Trump's personal demand and deadline

US President Donald Trump gave Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro a week to leave the country during a phone call on November 21st. Reuters, citing four sources, reported that Trump informed Maduro that he could go to any country he wanted with his family. The deadline expired on Friday, November 28th. After the deadline, Trump officially announced on his social media that Venezuela's airspace was closed to the US.

Maduro's terms and Washington's denial

According to Reuters sources, Nicolas Maduro agreed to leave the country, but made a number of conditions. He demanded full legal amnesty for himself and his family, cancellation of all US sanctions, and termination of the case in the International Criminal Court. The Trump administration did not agree to these conditions and did not accept them.

Pressure on Caracas: Military action and security crisis

During Trump's second presidential term, relations between the US and Venezuela deteriorated further. Washington does not consider Maduro a legitimate leader and accuses his government of sluggishness in the fight against drug trafficking, corruption, and violations of the law.

Since September, the US has deployed modern warships and aircraft in the Caribbean basin and carried out more than 20 strikes on ships allegedly transporting narcotics. As a result, more than 80 people were reported dead. The new restriction - closing airspace - means that Washington has increased its pressure on Caracas. Experts note that this situation could further exacerbate the political crisis in Venezuela.
